Because of its night-time red laser vision , this off-planet mining droid was nicknamed Eye Robot, in an attempt at a pun on the Histo Texts by Isaac Asimov. Massive by necessity, each was an impressive feat of engineering excellence.
Mining for ore in asteroid belts, controllers could remotely operate the droid by wearing a virtual reality suit. Quotas of ore production soared after the use of these neutronic-brained robots was legalised in the late 22nd century. During this period of great ore harvests it was inevitable that organised crime would unleash a wave of pirates who looted and pillaged relentlessly for 50 years until the planetary councils united to thwart this tyranny.
